Social Justice Advocacy 101: How to Become a Social Justice Advocate From A to Z

If you want to learn more about this topic, then visit www.howexpert.com/justiceadvocacy.

The premise of the book Social Justice Advocacy 101: How to Become a Social Justice Advocate From A to Z is that people are passionate about standing up for causes they care about, but simply don’t know where to begin to take action. Through a step-by-step guide, the book educates readers on the basic knowledge needed to start advocating. The basic knowledge includes a brief overview of how the United States government works, how to build relationships with government officials, different kinds of social justice events, and other aspects of advocacy that are important to know. The book ends with a glossary of helpful terminology and resources for further learning.

The introduction welcomes the reader to the exciting world of advocacy, while also setting up the way the book will work. It explains that glossary terms are underlined and can be referenced for definitions in the back of the book. The glossary terms are created by a combination of the author’s experiences and common knowledge. It also explains that there are resources at the end of the book too, as well as chapter summaries at the end of each chapter. In addition, the introduction takes some time to go over how to pick a cause for which to advocate.

The second chapter, “Quick Government Rundown,” goes over how the United States government is run. It describes the branches of the government, such as Executive, Legislative, and Judicial. It also goes over the levels of representation, including Local, State, and National. Finally, it explains how bills become laws.

The third chapter, “Befriending Government Officials,” discusses how to build relationships with government officials in order to bring change. It covers choosing an official, meeting with one, calling one, and writing to one. It also breaks down most of these steps further. For meeting with an official, it discusses setting up the meeting, preparing for it, dressing up for it, having the meeting, and following up. For calling, it explains how to create a phone script, leave a voicemail, and improvise. Last but not least, it divides writing into emails and letters.

The fourth chapter goes over several advocacy events that are important to know, summed up in the chapter title, “Rallies, Protests, and Marches. Oh My!” It explains how to differentiate these events, find out about them, dress for them, and prepare for them. To prepare for these events, the chapter breaks down further to cover several tips. The chapter also briefly discusses the importance of the reader knowing his/her/their rights before going to any of these events, as well as how to network at one.

The fifth chapter, “Honorable Mentions,” groups together several important aspects of advocacy that don’t necessarily require their own individual chapters. These include donations, organizations, petitions, social media, town halls, and votes. Some of these sections are divided further. For example, the Organizations section covers finding them, networking at them, and signing up for their newsletters. The Town Halls section is broken down further as well, including finding out about them, preparing for them, and speaking at them. Finally, the Votes section is divided into deciding whether or not to vote, registering to vote, and what to expect when arriving to vote.

The sixth chapter, “Knowing Your Limits,” has a title that is self-explanatory. It advises on what shouldn’t and should be done when advocating. The Don’ts section includes not being negative, picking fights, going to extremes, name calling, always speaking for someone else, and being too hard on yourself as the reader. The Do’s section includes being assertive, spending energy wisely, genuinely listening to the other side, trying to see others’ points of view, advocating consistently, learning from others, being patient, keeping mental health in check, practicing self-care and boundaries, and being optimistic and staying inspired.

The conclusion briefly discusses everything that’s been mentioned so far. There is then an “About the Expert” section that discusses the author of the book briefly. The “Glossary” is then in Appendix A, giving definitions based on the author’s understanding of certain terms, and common knowledge, throughout the book. Finally, the book ends with “References and Resources” in Appendix B, which includes apps, further reading, inspiration, references, videos, and websites.

Through several chapters and appendixes, the book covers the basic knowledge that anyone hoping to start in the advocacy world would need. Readers will finish reading and feel they have a rudimentary understanding of social justice advocacy. By then, they will be equipped with the tools necessary to begin advocating right away.

Juneau Travel Guide: 101 Places to Visit, Explore, and Experience Juneau, Alaska to the Fullest From A to Z

If you want to learn more about this topic, then visit www.howexpert.com/juneauguide.

Juneau, Alaska has a way with landscapes. In fact, its terrain takes on a more serious tone for those travelers looking for an easy way to access this dynamic city. The shock comes when you realize there’s never been one. Juneau is an island city that covers an impressive amount of land yet calls just over 32,000 residents it's own year-round. It’s possible to drive end to end, but that’s as far as the road goes. Those looking to make the most of their time in the capital of Alaska will have to purchase a plane ticket or find a boat to do so. Perhaps it’s the challenge of the journey that makes Juneau feel so remote and exciting. Or maybe it’s the idea that once you’re here, you're a part of a place that sits precariously between whims of nature and the charm of small-town tradition. Whatever the reason may be, it’s hard to deny that Juneau has a way with travelers.

Juneau Brings Versatility

There’s no place quite like Juneau when it comes to versatility. That rather small yet constant population of 32,000 residents inflates overnight when the summer season comes into full swing. Between the months of May and October, Juneau plays host to a variety of cruise ships that make this scenic destination a primary port of call. Across Alaska, this is an inevitable trend. As the appeal of Alaska grows, so do the number of visitors. It’s estimated that some 1.3 million tourists will make their way to the state in 2019 through cruise lines.

When you take time to consider what’s waiting beyond the Port of Juneau, it’s not hard to see why the excitement around this dazzling destination has only grown. The land is as bold and beautiful as any travel guide could ever paint it to be. Towering mountains house endless forests where bears roam and eagles leisurely take to the skies. The water that surrounds Juneau is home to pods of humpback whales and orcas that make regular appearances, much to the astonishment of those arriving from the inland states of the Lower 48 and beyond. There’s a sense that the cityscape of Juneau is a playground for nature rather than the other way around. From Mendenhall Glacier to Nugget Falls and the impressive expanse that makes up Tongass National Forest, Juneau’s natural wonders thrive in this area of Southeast Alaska that continues to captivate travelers from near and far.

June Brings the Rain

When in Juneau, do yourself a favor and don’t forget your raincoat. Rainy days in southeast Alaska far outnumber sunny ones and while it might seem that this would repel those with a passion for warmer weather, this is a city that makes mist look magical. As the fog and rain roll in, the mountains and sea take on a steely demeanor that remains mysteriously peaceful. The cries of seagulls and the low rumble of boats in the harbor can quickly make you forget why you ever loathed that plastic parka that’s come in so handy.

Juneau, Alaska has a way of lingering long after you’ve left. There are many stories of travelers who made their way here only to be caught up in the unspeakable beauty of it all. Once they saw just how balanced life lived next nature could be, they never turned back. It’s worth a visit this direction if only to see what all this talk of enchantment is about.

International English Teacher 101: How to Start, Grow, and Succeed as an International English Teacher Worldwide

If you want to learn more about this topic, then visit www.howexpert.com/englishteacher.

A QUICK QUIZ

Where should I teach English, Dan? This is probably the question I get asked the most. The answer really depends on you and what you and what you want to get out of the situation. In order to help you decide, I’ve put together this quick quiz. Answer each question according to this key:

  1. Very little
  2. Not much
  3. A bit
  4. Some
  5. A lot
  6. A whole lot

There is no “I don’t know” or “I don’t care option”. Force yourself to develop an opinion on each issue as these are the issues that will have an influence on your happiness teaching in that region. Her you go:

  1. How much do you hate mornings?
  2. How much do you want to learn the foreign language?
  3. How comfortable are you with your own company?
  4. How big a part of your social life is drinking?
  5. Do you like kids?
  6. Do you need easy access to mental health medications?
  7. How much do you hate being micromanaged?
  8. Is your privacy important to you?
  9. Do you eat most foods?
  10. How important is it to you to be able to go to church?
  11. Would you like to have an assistant teacher or co-teacher?
  12. How much do you not want to be around fellow countrymen?
  13. Do you envision dating locals as part of your experience?
  14. How much room for creativity do you want in lesson planning?
  15. Is it important to you to get your fast food fix once in a while?
  16. Do you regularly exercise?
  17. How much do you laugh at yourself?
  18. How reliant are you on the textbook?
  19. Can you find your way around a big city?
  20. How paranoid does it make you when others use your name?

Answer Key:

  1. The higher your score the more you should look at the Asian Tigers with all their cram schools that do not start until 3pm. Warning: you’ll be working weekends!
  2. The higher your score the more you want to look at Latin America and West Africa, the easiest places to learn the colonial language for those who studied Spanish or French in high school.
  3. The higher your score the more you might consider the Middle East where you will likely live in a walled compound and have little contact with the opposite sex.
  4. The higher your score the more you should look at ex-Soviet republics. People think of Latin Americans as big drinkers, but I have been shocked by how much drinking goes on in East Asia.
  5. The lower your score the more you should look at the chain schools in Latin America and China with adult students, unless you have a Masters and teach college.
  6. The higher your score the more you should look at Latin America. Medications are cheap and easy to get without prescriptions. They are impossible to find in Africa and highly stigmatized in much of Asia.
  7. The higher your score, the more you should look at more laid back places like Latin America or Southeast Asia. The hogwans and language centers of Korea and China will have the most micromanagers.
  8. The higher your score the more you should look at the Middle East. The lower your score the more you can stand Africa where you will stand out it not Black or Asia with its crush of people. For more privacy, try Eastern Europe or the Caucasus.
  9. The lower your score the more you need to stick to Europe or the richer Asian nations with Western food options.
  10. The higher your score the more Latin America (especially if Catholic) or Korea (for Christians) will appeal to you.
  11. The higher your score the more you should look at private schools in Asia. Latin America cannot afford much staff. In Africa you may have to handle a hundred students on your own.
  12. The higher your score, if you are American and want to escape other Americans, stay away from Latin America where most teachers are American, and ipso facto if Kiwi, Aussie, South African, or European, head to Latin America.
  13. The higher your score and if you’re only looking to score and not courting, the more you should avoid Africa and poorer Latin American countries where dating locals mostly leads to expectations of marriage.
  14. The higher your score, the more you should look at more laid back places like Africa and Latin America and avoid the stricter managers at some Asian cram schools, or public schools anywhere with a national curriculum.
  15. The higher your score the more burgers and pizzas you’ll get in Latin America, Europe, Asia, almost anywhere but poor Africa.
  16. The higher your score, the happier you will be anywhere as it promotes physical and mental health, but females should not go jogging in Africa, Eastern Europe, parts of Latin America – and be careful everywhere.
  17. The higher your score the more you will succeed everywhere you go as you will make mistakes and have all your values questioned often. The lower scores may wish to try Easter Europe – or stick in their compounds in the Middle East.
  18. The higher your score the more you should avoid poorer nations of African, Latin America, and Asia where you may not have any resources at all.
  19. The lower your score the more you should look at Latin America and Southeast Asia where some TEFL teachers are happy in smaller towns. Most TELF teachers prefer the big cities and suffer in village life.
  20. The higher your score the more you should consider not teaching English abroad at all.

Well, if you’ve answered those questions honestly, you should now have a better idea where your would like to teach in the world and it only remains to wish you bon voyage!

Salamander 101: How to Learn About, Get, and Take Care of Salamanders From A to Z

If you want to learn more about this topic, then visit www.howexpert.com/salamander1.

Salamanders are a species of animal that can be found all over the world, but most people don’t even know what they are. I didn’t even know what they were until I found one in the wild when I was younger. However, once I started to learn more about salamanders, I fell in love with them, and I’m sure other people will too once they start to learn more.

When asked what a salamander is, the majority of people would likely respond by saying that it is a type of lizard, but this is certainly not the case. Salamanders are a type of amphibian, meaning that they fall under the same category as a frog or toad would. These incredible creatures may not be well-known to every person, but they are interesting, easygoing creatures that can actually be kept as pets for those that are knowledgeable about them.

The main thing that sets salamanders and other amphibians apart from lizards is their skin. Salamanders can be distinguished by their smooth, slimy skin. They do not have any scales or claws to protect themselves as a lizard would. Therefore, salamanders spend most of their time hiding under logs and rocks for protection, which is why you will rarely see these animals on a day to day basis. Plus, they are nocturnal creatures, which means that they will come out only at night to hunt and catch their prey, which consists of crickets, worms, and any other bugs that can fit in their mouths. They are small creatures that are content as long as they have food, moisture, and a safe place to hide. This is why they make such great pets.

To keep a salamander as a pet, you will need to prepare plenty of information and supplies ahead of time. This consists of setting up a space for them to live in, learning about what foods they can eat, and understanding how to keep them healthy on a day to day basis. They are docile and easygoing animals, so they make great pets even for individuals that have never owned an exotic pet before. Their care requirements are fairly basic, but if you have a salamander of your own, you still need to take caring for them seriously. Just because they are a small, inactive pet doesn’t mean that they won’t become a significant part of your family. A salamander is just as important and lovable as any other pet is.

However, pet salamanders are not for everyone. Salamanders are more for observing than playing with. They need an owner that can respect their space and watch them from a distance. Once you get to know your salamander better, they can become more comfortable around you, but it will take time and patience to reach this. Therefore, bonding with a salamander is a rewarding experience, but it is one that you must be willing to work hard to reach. If you do have a pet salamander that you are close to though, then it is one of the most rewarding experiences you can have. Therefore, while they might not be the most popular pets out there, salamanders are great animals that an animal lover should definitely consider owning if they feel that they are ready.

ARTICLE PASTED HERE

Mystery shopping is quite an elusive industry…in fact, some people don’t even know it exists! Mystery shoppers come from all walks of life and when they do their jobs correctly you won’t even know they were there. They pose as normal, everyday customers and don’t ever reveal themselves as mystery shoppers. You could have been standing next to a mystery shopper in any business that you went to over the last week!

So what do mystery shoppers do? It can be as varied as observing how a store employee handles a customer complaint, making sure that signage for a store’s new sale is placed in the correct locations, or making sure servers are promoting a certain beverage with customer meals. Mystery shoppers can basically be there to assess almost anything!

Mystery shoppers work as independent contractors, meaning that they own their own businesses. As such, they are responsible for finding available shops and keeping up with all the paperwork involved in owning a business. This means they must track their own income and expenses related to the work they do mystery shopping. Expenses could include mileage or other transportation costs, supplies, membership dues, unreimbursed purchases, and more. They are also responsible for completing business taxes for their mystery shopping business in addition to their own personal income taxes.

Since all mystery shoppers own their own businesses, competition can be very fierce. Finding available shops used to be quite difficult, but with the rise of technology in the industry, specifically the introduction of shop aggregators, finding available shops isn’t so hard anymore. Some of the best shop aggregators out there are Jobslinger and MS Job Board, both of which are managed by major mystery shopping platforms, Sassie and Shopmetrics, respectively. Even though there are literally hundreds of mystery shopping companies out there, most use one of three major mystery shopping platforms – Sassie, Shopmetrics, and Prophet. This makes is easy for the platforms to aggregate all available shops from participating companies into one place, and as a result, makes it so much easier for shoppers to find new work! These shop aggregators are worth their weight in (virtual) gold, especially for new shoppers trying to get a foot in the door.

Mobile aggregator apps are one of the fastest growing segments in the mystery shopping industry, and it’s not hard to tell why! Almost everyone owns a mobile device of some sort, and now with a quick visit to your device’s app store you can download a shop aggregator app like Gigspot, PrestoMaps, or iSecretShop. Once downloaded, you can view available shops near your current location, apply for shops, and complete all parts of the shop right in the app! No more having to remember tons of details and then spit them out into a report later that night. Mobile apps make mystery shopping easier, quicker, and more profitable.

Working in an industry like this can be a little lonely, since you’re prohibited from openly discussing any of the details of the places you mystery shop, but social media has done a lot to bring community into the industry. Facebook alone has dozens of groups dedicated to not only posting available shops, but also allowing shoppers a place to discuss, rant, vent, and resolve issues. In addition to social media, there are several forums dedicated to mystery shopping that all shoppers, both new and old, find very useful. Volition, Mystery Shop Forum, and Mystery Shopping Solutions are some of the most popular and useful forums to find available shops and connect with other shoppers, both in your area and worldwide!

Overall, mystery shopping is unique, fun, and interesting. Mystery shoppers experience variety in their work that most other industries could only dream about, all while making a huge difference to the businesses and employees they shop. Observations made by mystery shoppers can literally change the entire future of a business! From an employee getting a raise to a company implementing a brand new training program for all staff, mystery shopping reports are essential for successful business to get to the top and stay there. Join this fast-paced, ever-changing industry and help make businesses where you live better!
